Chevrolet showed the next-generation 2027 Silverado 1500 in June but held back the numbers that matter most to truck buyers. In September GM filled in the blanks: the two new V8s now have official horsepower, torque and towing ratings, and the order guide shows exactly which engine each trim gets.
2027 Silverado V8 horsepower and torque
Both V8s belong to GM's new sixth-generation Small Block family and use direct plus port fuel injection. They replace the 5.3L and 6.2L engines of the current truck.

The 5.7L V8 gains its displacement from a stroke that is 6.0 mm longer than the old 5.3L, and adds a higher compression ratio, larger throttle bodies and new intake manifolds. The result is 47 hp and 45 lb-ft more than the engine it replaces.
The 2027 Silverado 6.6 V8 is the new top engine. At 481 hp and 501 lb-ft it makes 61 hp and 41 lb-ft more than the outgoing 6.2L, and Chevrolet calls it the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 among half-ton pickups. GM has also dropped the traditional oil dipstick on the new V8s.
2027 Silverado towing capacity: the smaller V8 wins
The bigger engine is not the towing choice. A properly equipped 2027 Silverado with the 5.7L V8 is rated to tow up to 13,700 pounds, while the best 6.6L configuration is rated at 9,700 pounds. The 6.6L is aimed at buyers who want maximum performance in the most expensive trims rather than maximum trailer weight.
TurboMax and Duramax stay in the lineup
The 2027 Silverado 1500 engines list still has four choices. The updated 2.7L TurboMax four-cylinder makes 350 hp and 455 lb-ft and is now paired with a 10-speed automatic. The 2027 Silverado Duramax — the 3.0L turbo-diesel inline-six — returns with 305 hp and 495 lb-ft.
Which trim gets which engine
GM's order guide for the redesigned truck breaks it down like this:

The 6.6L V8 is limited to the ZR2 and High Country and requires four-wheel drive. On the Work Truck, the 5.7L needs the WT Convenience Package, and the diesel is offered on that trim only with the Crew Cab. Availability can still shift with cab, bed and drivetrain choices.
2027 Silverado release date and price
Chevrolet says the 2027 Silverado 1500 goes on sale at the end of 2026, and GM says the new V8s will be available when the truck launches. The V8s are built at GM's Flint Engine Operations first, with Tonawanda, New York, and St. Catharines, Ontario, adding capacity later. Neither announcement included 2027 Silverado prices; we will add them once Chevrolet publishes them.
Beyond the engines, every 2027 Silverado gets a 16.3-inch center screen and a 12.2-inch driver display, and Super Cruise hands-free driving now works while towing.
