Toyota rates the 2021–2022 Tacoma to tow up to 6,800 lb with the 3.5L V6 and automatic transmission as a 4x2, and 6,400–6,500 lb as a 4x4. The 2.7L four-cylinder is rated at 3,500 lb.

EPA ratings are 21 mpg combined for 4x2 trucks with either engine (19/24 mpg for the V6, 20/23 mpg for the 2.7L) and 20 mpg combined as a 4x4 with the automatic; V6 manual trucks are rated 18 mpg combined. The fuel tank holds 21.1 gallons.
Tacoma engines and oil capacity
The 2.7L four-cylinder makes 159 hp and 180 lb-ft, and the 3.5L V6 makes 278 hp and 265 lb-ft, with a 6-speed automatic or, on the V6, a 6-speed manual. Toyota lists 6.2 quarts of SAE 0W-20 for the 2.7L and 5.9 quarts for the V6, both with the filter.
