Ford has filed six new safety recalls for the F-150 with NHTSA since early September. One of them is big: 223,472 trucks from the 2023 through 2027 model years may have fuel tank straps that are not properly secured. The others are smaller but touch the newest trucks — front seat bolts, a tailgate cable, the analog gauges and two build-quality problems on a few dozen 2026 models. Dealers fix all of them free of charge.

Truck counts are NHTSA's "potentially affected" totals for the whole campaign; for the gauge and tailgate recalls that number includes Super Duty pickups.
F-150 fuel tank strap recall (26V578000)
This is the one most owners should check. On affected 2023–2027 F-150s the fuel tank may not be held securely. A loose tank can leak fuel, which can stall the engine or start a fire, and in the worst case the tank can come off the truck while it is moving and become a hazard on the road.
Dealers will inspect the fuel tank straps and replace them where needed. Ford mailed owner letters on September 21, 2026, and the affected VINs are searchable on NHTSA's site. The 2023 model year is already flagged on our 2023 Ford F-150 page.

F-150 tailgate cable recall (26V689000)
On certain 2026–2027 F-150s the cable on the left side of the tailgate can break when the lowered tailgate carries a heavy load, letting the gate drop down onto the rear bumper and possibly injure someone standing nearby. Dealers will replace the left cable, but the parts are not ready yet: Ford plans to send interim warning letters on December 14, 2026, and a second letter once the fix is available, which it expects in January 2027. VINs become searchable on NHTSA.gov from December 7.
F-150 seat bolt recall (26V655000)
About 2,276 F-150s from the 2025–2027 model years may have front seats that are not properly bolted to the body, so the seat might not hold its occupant in a crash. Autoblog reports the trucks were built between August 25, 2025, and September 23, 2026, and that Ford knew of 56 warranty reports and 16 field reports but no crashes or injuries. Dealers will check the bolts and tighten or replace them; owner letters went out on October 16.
F-150 speedometer recall (26V653000)
Some 2026 F-150s with the analog instrument cluster can show a speedometer or tachometer needle that sticks or jumps around, so the driver may not see the true speed. Because of that the trucks fail federal standard FMVSS 101 for controls and displays. Dealers will replace the instrument cluster. Interim letters were due on October 26, with the fix expected in December 2026.
Two small 2026 F-150 recalls
- 26V576000 — 37 trucks may have the wrong rear axle tail bearing, which can lock a rear wheel or let the driveshaft separate. A separated driveshaft can also let a parked truck roll away if the parking brake is not set. Dealers replace the bearing.
- 26V577000 — on 17 trucks the rear stabilizer rod fasteners may not have been tightened at the factory, so the rod can shift and affect handling. Dealers replace the fasteners.

The F-150 news comes during a heavy recall year for Ford overall: Autoblog counts 80 Ford recalls in the U.S. in 2026, more than any other automaker, with Stellantis next at 39. Ford says the number reflects more proactive quality checks.
